Patches and Threads

I love patches of colour. I have always made patchwork things from fabric, rugs, mats, clothes. I have also knitted or crotcheted patchwok blankets in the past, although they turned out rather well, they were always uniform with the same all over pattern. But I have just finished this little rug for my beautiful little grandson. It is made from leftovers and scraps, all of them wool or wool blends. Most of the yarns are 8ply but some are 12ply. I decided to experiment with lots of different stitches and patterns and textures, some I had never tried before. Some patches worked, some didn't, but in the context of the patchwork it didn't matter. The pic doesn't show all the stitches, but the textures are different across the blanket, including among others,cable, popcorn and moss stitches
Instead of making squares and joining them all together, I made strips, changing wool and pattern every 15cms, so I only had half the sewing to do in joining the strips together instead of all the squares. I finished the blanket off with three rows of double crotchet. I'm really happy with it, I asked my grandson which patch he liked the best and he waved his little hand over the rug and said
" Luca like all those". It was so worth the effort.
